Escaped prisoner being ordered for competency examination

LUCE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Man who’s serving prison time downstate has been ordered for a competency examination.

Alize Zachary Dwayne Montague, 19, escaped from Newberry Correctional Facility August 16. According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Montague was taken into custody by the Michigan State Police approximately one hour and fifteen minutes after his escape. He was arrested outside of a local motel within a short distance of the prison white attempting to get a vehicle.

Montague is charged with prison escape, taking a hostage while being a prisoner, and armed robbery. The last two charges are alleged to have occurred outside of the prison prior to Montague being taken into custody. The maximum punishment for these offenses is life in prison.

There’s no word on a new court date.
