MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Though it's still winter and cold outside, dozens showed up for Queen City Running's Run Your Heart Out Valentine's Day themed 5K race in Marquette.
It started along Baraga Avenue and Lakeshore Boulevard Sunday afternoon. You could run the race with a loved one whether it be your significant other, child, or a friend, and then the two total times would be taken and divided by two for your final time.
Organizers said they wanted to throw a 5K in February because there are not very many running events happening throughout the winter months.
"We wanted to get people to get outside, and enjoy the weather a little bit," said Kevin Thomsen, Queen City Running Company Owner. "There's not many races in the winter, so we've been trying to hold events on a weekly basis and what could be better than a Valentine's Day themed race?"
A party with snacks and refreshments were held at the Queen City Running store in Marquette following the race.
Queen City Running also hold group runs twice a week for both beginners and more advanced runners. The runs are free and open to the public, starting at 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays outside the Superior Dome. For more information, visit queencityrunningco.com.
