MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) As many of you know, Marquette has a new title to be proud of: Hockeyville USA.

Saturday, Lakeview Arena was packed with supporters, many of whom voted in the Kraft Hockeyville contest, for the big announcement. Lakeview Arena won and gets $150,000 to be used for upgrades to the stadium.

It will also be the site of an NHL preseason game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Folks here say, it really shows the communities love of the game.

"It's a great honor for Marquette, and so appropriate because hockey has been an integral part of the cultural aspect of Marquette for so many years," said Tony Tollefson, Lakeview supporter. "It's great to see the community get together to support this and they're looking forward to not only improvements in the arena but the fact that they're going to get an NHL hockey game right here in Marquette."

The NHL game between the Sabres and Hurricanes is scheduled for October 4.
