MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Good news for a non-profit group looking to re-purpose the Lower Harbor Ore Dock in Marquette. The group, called BotEco, now has signed letters from the city and state in support of their plans.

The plans include historical preservation of the dock, community use paces, ecological research, and eventually a year-round botanical garden.

“Now, once the city signs that they send it to the Department of Environmental Quality of the state of Michigan, they'll sign it, then it gets filed that that's the springboard for us to go ahead and proceed with applications for grants and to proceed in talking with other agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers,” Board President of the BotEco Center Gisele Duehring said.

The group is hoping to have another in-depth structural analysis soon.

Within a couple years, their goal is to have a connecting walkway out to the Ore Dock complete.
