MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE Feb. 15 5:55 p.m.
Northern Michigan University's Jacobetti Complex is still closed Thursday night, after a water test revealed elevated lead levels. The single test was conducted after a recent water line repair and NMU staff noticed unusual sediment during the repair.
The complex was shutdown Wednesday and is expected to remain closed until Friday night.
Additional water samples have been sent to two independent labs. One lab has already given their results, finding lead levels below the legal limit.
"This is a big building on our campus. There was supposed to be a banquet here tonight. That was cancelled. We're supposed to have 150 high school kids visiting here tomorrow. That was cancelled. We shut the building down immediately once we got the test results from that original test," said NMU Spokesperson Derek Hall.
To prevent anything like this from happening again in the future, NMU will test all water on campus to make sure everything is safe. For more information, click here.
