DEARBORN, Mich. (WLUC) - AAA Michigan is projecting more Michigan residents will travel this Memorial Day weekend compared to last year.
In a projection released Wednesday morning, the auto club group says it expects more than 1.2 million state residents will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend. That would be a 2.5 percent increase from just more than 1.1 million who traveled in 2016.
AAA Michigan says this would be the highest Michigan travel volume for the holiday in more than a decade.
Kicking off the summer driving season, more than 1 million travelers will be driving to their destinations while more than 60,000 people will travel by air. The remaining 50,000 travelers will go by train, bus or ship.
