MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - This week is the 15 year anniversary of the flood that swept through Marquette County. It started as the Silver Lake Basin dam failed but now there's good news.
According to Field and Stream Magazine some of the best fishing in the state can be found at the Silver Lake Basin. Plenty of healthy Northern Pike can now be found there.
Since the flood, the Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) has invested heavily in all nine of it's hydroelectric units.
"Over the last 10 years UPPCO has invested more than more than $60 million in the hydrogeneration assets that we have to ensure that they'll be around for many years to come providing clean renewable energy to the customers that we serve," said Brett French from UPPCO.
UPPCO provides nearly 20 percent of it's annual energy to it's customers using hydroelectric plants.
