CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) - Kids of the Copper Country were able to enjoy a free fishing day hosted by the Keweenaw Sportsmen's in the Swedetown Pond of Calumet Saturday.

Kids participating were able to enjoy fishing with lunch completely free of charge. Prizes including fishing poles, bicycles, and a cash prize were available for kids with the biggest fish of the day.

This year was a record turnout for the event. Over 200 kids came out to the fishing day beating last year's number by more than 60 kids.

“For the Keweenaw sports men and women of our community, it's a great chance for the kids to get away from the day-to-day life, enjoy the outdoors, enjoy family, and enjoy all the beautiful things we have here in the Keweenaw,” said Greg Nakkula of the Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club.

This was the 13th year the event was offered in the community.
