The Doctor is in...Breast Screening

Event Dates and Times

10/18/2017 - Starts: 12:00 PM - Ends: 1:00 PM
Peter White Public Library, Shiras Room, Marquette MI 49855
On Wednesday, October 18 from noon till 1:00 pm, U.P.H.S. Marquette physician Dr. Sheetal Acharya will discuss breast screening in this month’s Meet the Physician series in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 American women. In 2017 it is estimated that 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed with another 63,410 non-invasive cases diagnosed. Since 1989, the numbers of women who die each year due to breast cancer has steadily decreased. It is thought that increased awareness, treatment advances and earlier detection have contributed to that trend.

A 2000 graduate of the University of Chicago Division of the Biological Sciences the Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. Acharya completed her residency at the University of Chicago. Dr. Acharya has been in practice for 17 years, specializing in Hematology and Oncology. She currently practices at UP Hematology & Oncology Associates and is board certified in Medical Oncology

This monthly lunch and learn session is sponsored by the U.P. Health System of Marquette and the Peter White Public Library. Be sure to bring a sack lunch as well as any questions you may have for the doctor. There is no admission charge to attend. For more information, visit the library’s website at www.pwpl.info or call 906-226-4318.

The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival presents: Titus Andronicus
At the Ore Dock Brewery October 15, 18, 22, 25, & 29 at 7:30 p.m.
“Oppression worketh out its own destruction.”

The stakes are high in Shakespeare’s bloodiest revenge play, as staged thru the lenses of “contestants” in this game called Society.
What do we stand for? Who do we stand with? How do we govern ourselves in a culture whose predilections for violence and domination steer our tactics?

In this hilarious, provoking and sometimes manically terrifying treatment of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus are you just here for the party... or are you the next competitor? For more info contact jamie@upshakes.org, call 734.578.2528. www.upshakes.org/tickets
