Peter White Public Library, Community Room, Marquette, MI
On Saturday, October 14 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm the Peter White Public Library will host a traditional music jam immediately following the Master Artist workshop with Wayne Henderson and Helen White in the library’s community room.

A limited quantity of sheet music is available for those not familiar with the songs. Listeners and singers are always welcome

Master Artist Concert & Workshop

Event Dates and Times

10/13/2017 - Starts: 7:00 PM - Ends: 8:30 PM
10/14/2017 - Starts: 1:00 PM - Ends: 2:00 PM
Peter White Public Library, Community Room, Marquette, MI
Enjoy an evening concert and afternoon workshop with Wayne Henderson and Helen White at the Peter White Public Library on Friday, October 13, at 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 pm in the library’s community room.

Wayne Henderson is a National Heritage Award recipient honored for his craftsmanship as a luthier and his renowned finger-style Appalachian guitar playing. His instruments are coveted worldwide and he sports a long waiting list for his guitars, mandolins, and banjos. Wayne’s lightning fast, articulate playing style was influenced by Doc Watson and EC Ball. His repertoire includes Appalachian fiddle tunes, Carter Family melodies and a few swing and rockabilly standards. He has won more awards at the Galax Fiddlers Convention than any other competitor in its seventy-seven-year history.

A singer, fiddler, guitarist and tunesmith, Helen White has toured extensively with Wayne in the U.S. and Europe. Her compositions include works for theater and video projects as well as a Booklist honored recording of original songs for children. Helen is the founder and served as director of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program at the local and regional level for 15 years.

For Saturday’s workshop, Wayne and Helen will do a "Talk and Demonstration" on the traditional Appalachian style music they play, moderated by Phil Watt. Topics will include their backgrounds, how they became interested in music, and the art of instrument building, during which a few tunes will be played. The format will be informal ... an opportunity to be up close and interact with the artists.

For Friday’s concert there is a $5 cover charge for adults at the door. The Saturday workshop is free thanks to sponsorship by the Hiawatha Music Cooperative and the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of the Peter White Public Library. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
