The Peter White Public Library invites film fans to enjoy a bring your own dinner movie event on Tuesday, January 23, for a screening of the 2017 film The Big Sick at 6:00 pm in the library’s community room.

When Pakistan-born comedian Kumail and grad student Emily fall in love, they struggle with cultural clashes, exacerbated when Emily is put into a medically induced coma. This film won the Las Vegas Film Critics Society award for best comedy film of the year. Starring Kumail Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan and Holly Hunter, this romantic comedy is rated R and runs 2 hours.

Matinee Movie--Dunkirk

On Tuesday, January 23, at 12:30 pm, the Peter White Public Library will show the 2017 film, Dunkirk, in the library’s community room as part of its Matinee Movie series. Bring your own lunch and enjoy the movie in a dinner theater setting. Closed captioning will be on to ensure access for all.

When World War II allied soldiers from Belgium, England and France find themselves surrounded by the German Army on the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, they must work together to survive. This film was nominated for three Golden Globe awards and won the movie of the year from the AFI Awards USA. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Barry Keoghan and Mark Rylance, this historical war drama is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour 46 minutes.

The recently re-established Upper Peninsula Human Trafficking Task Force (UPHTTF) has teamed together with the Department of Justice and Michigan State Police to bring Human Trafficking Community Awareness to the UP during Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Featured speakers include, Leslie Hagen from the Department of Justice, SA Todd Wilton ICE/HIS, and local MSP Community Troopers, Elisabeth Alquist, Iron Mountain Police Department Victim Advocate, Cheryl O’Neil Executive Director Caring House INC, and Stephanie Krieger s7Consulting.

There will be time for Q & A after each presentation and a brief invite to any participants to join the UPHTTF by the current Task Force Group Leader/Administrator Marlene Mottes Victim Advocate from the Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Michigan Marquette Office.
