The Peter White Public Library invites film fans to enjoy a bring your own dinner movie event on Tuesday, February 1, for a screening of the 2017 film Detroit at 6:00 pm in the library’s community room.

In 1967 during the Detroit race riots, a group of rogue police officers responds to a complaint with violence rather than justice. This film won 5th place out of the top 10 movies from the African American Film Critics Association, and it received the Diversity Award in the WIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards. Starring John Boyega, Anthony Mackie and Algee Smith, this historical crime drama is rated R and runs 2 hours 23 minutes.

Matinee Movie--Victoria & Abdul

On Thursday, February 1, at 12:30 pm, the Peter White Public Library will show the 2017 film, Victoria & Abdul, in the library’s community room as part of its Matinee Movie series. Bring your own lunch and enjoy the movie in a dinner theater setting. Closed captioning will be on to ensure access for all.

In her later years, Queen Victoria strikes up a friendship with a young Indian clerk despite objections from her household. This movie won the Heartland Film Truly Moving Picture Award 2017. Judi Dench, Ali Fazal and Tim Pigott-Smith, this biographical drama is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour 46 minutes.

Career and Technical Education Month®, or CTE Month®, is a public awareness campaign taking place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.

One way we are celebrating CTE month in Marquette and Alger Counties this February is by recognizing teachers, students, individuals and community organizations who enhance CTE by contributing to the improvement, promotion, development, quality and progress of CTE. The Marquette Alger CTE committee, whose main focus is helping young people make the best possible career decisions, is sponsoring these awards. In addition to the aforementioned categories, students presenting the best showcase display and poster design at their schools will also be recognized.

Guinness World Record Snowmobile Parade

On February 1st, 2018, come to Sault Ste. Marie to help us try to break the world record for the largest snowmobile parade! We need at least 1,048 snowmobiles on February 1, 2018, the Thursday before the 50th Annual International 500 Snowmobile Race.

The $5.00 registration fee per sled is used to cover the costs incurred to break the record.

All snowmobile operators must have a valid driver’s license and a registered sled.
