LANSING -- The Michigan House has voted to tap federal stimulus money set aside for next year to soften a cut in school funding now.

By a vote of 74-29, a majority of House members said Thursday the $184 million should be used to help schools avoid all but $10 of a $127 per student cut ordered by Gov. Jennifer Granholm.  Schools still would see their funding drop by the equivalent of $165 per student.

The bill looks unlikely to pass the Senate.  A Senate Republican spokesman says the House instead should use $100 million saved by freezing a tax credit for low income workers.

The House measure would restore half of the $52 million cut from wealthier school districts.

Nice, thinking in the short term. Now that money is gone and what will they do next year?

Idiots.

Wealthier School Systems??

Why is any one school district any better off than any other? All school children should be given the same amount no matter where they are.
BUT NOOO! The rich get more. Why is that? Why not take some of the extra money given to the rich districts and even out how much all the kids get?
Why is it that the smaller schools get so much less? Kids from smaller school are not qualified for the better education I guess. This outrages me! ALL grades should be taught the same thing, the same way.
It is sad. Right down to elementary school kids, we are teaching them that money makes you better than less wealthy people.
THAT is so not true.

what is this? A new wave of a welfare check? Oh I forgot - their taking it away from low-income workers - people on minimum wage trying to make a living the long hard way. There's grads from college to that can't find work.
