MARQUETTE -- The union representing professors at Northern Michigan University has approved a new three year contract.  Professors voted 179 to 55 to ratify the agreement.

It features an across the board salary increase of two percent for the current year.  There is no base salary increase for the remainder of the contract term, but there is a $700 one-time payment to each union member in the second year.

Health care contributions will go up for both the employee and university.

The contract still has to be approved by the Board of Trustees.
