ONTONAGON COUNTY -- The official Michigan Christmas tree will have a big journey this week.

The 65-year-old spruce is from Bergland, about 20 miles south of the Porcupine Mountains.

Currently growing in the lawn of Josh and Amanda Lopac, timbermen will fell the 63 foot tall tree on Wednesday.  It will then be shipped by truck across the state and arrive in Lansing this Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

It will be decorated with the official lighting scheduled for November 20.

Michigan's tree must be a spruce or a fir that is about 65 feet tall and easily accessible from the road.
