MARQUETTE -- First grader Michael Johnson rode to school this morning in a Marquette fire truck.

Michael was chosen as the winner of the Fire Safety Poster Contest a few weeks ago.

Elementary students in the city of Marquette drew posters for Fire Prevention Week.

Michael's poster is a picture of a firefighter telling a child to not be afraid.

"We think that's a good message because when firefighters wear their gear, sometimes it's really tough for the little kids; they're not really sure who's behind it, so we want to make sure that the kids were feeling good about firefighters and making sure that they didn't hide when they saw a firefighter and knew it was our job to help," said Sgt. Tom Dunleavy of the Marquette Fire Department.

Dunleavy also says the reward helps further spread the word about fire prevention.
